George Elgar Hicks (Lymington, Hampshire, 13 March 1824 - Odiham, 4 July 1914) was an English Victorian painter. He was born into the family of a wealthy judge and his parents dreamed that George would become a doctor. George Elgar studied medicine at University College, but after three years of study, Hicks decided he wanted to be an artist.
